A Sensible Project Process

Defining the actual problem first tends to prevent most of the stress later.

1. Record what’s happening

Note the symptoms, limit further damage where that’s reasonably possible, and pull together relevant history on the space.

2. Assess the house and the site

The part that matters most never shows: drain position, framing, how the waterproofing transitions are detailed, ventilation, wiring capacity, and access all decide the real scope of work.

3. Get the scope in writing

Spell out preparation, protection, materials, access, permits, testing, cleanup, finish restoration, exclusions, and how any changes get priced.

4. Compare the reasoning, not just the total

Verify credentials, then look at how each proposal explains its own boundaries — the bottom-line number alone hides a lot.

5. Confirm the closeout

Testing, cleanup, documentation, warranty terms, and any maintenance responsibilities going forward should all be confirmed before the project is considered finished.
